About this librarian

I have a lot to say. But not all the time.

I have a lot to say. But not all the time.

I felt a seismic shift in myself in 2025. It kind of started in 2024 but I got distracted with a stressful situation. Not feeling like myself for quite some time or even knowing and appreciating myself, I've finally reached a point in my life where I see things clearly, inside and out. I heard that happens to women in their 50s (I'm wut?).

I saw this Instagram reel about cicadas by khaotickayleee during summer 2025 and it resonated with me. I'm a cicada that's been resting. I'm ready for some havoc.

This blog was probably years in the making. It's been suggested to me in the past and then again most recently. Now appreciating my voice, a blog sounded like the perfect outlet to scream into the void. Social media doesn't cut it anymore for personal expression. We are all just avatars and entertainment in each other's lives. Thanks tech bros. So, maybe others will read this little space I'm carving out. But, it's mostly for myself.

I'm a librarian. That was never my dream job growing up, but now it is. I'll tell that story at some point. Not All Librarians is a riff on the multiple comments I've received over the years when someone finds out I'm a librarian:

"You don't look like a librarian!" (Well, I sort of do)
"You must like to read!" (Actually, I don't)
"Tell me about the Dewey Decimal System!" (Melvil Dewey was a misogynist, sexual harasser, racist, and antisemite and the DDS reflects that)
"I don't even know what a librarian does!" (Sigh)
"You must like cats!" (Shut up! Many people like cats!)

There are many articles about librarian stereotypes (Google it). But this blog isn't about stereotypes. I just like the name. Any maybe I'll dispel some myths along the way.

As the tagline for this site suggests, my posts will be mostly life related with a smattering of library. I also don't consider myself a writer and my grammar will be all over the place. I'm fond of the passive voice. Don't (copy)edit me here.

Views are my own.
